Companionship & Social Support

When I first started volunteering in a little nursing home after school, I learned quickly that what many elders missed most was simple, sincere company. That lesson has stayed with me through every one of my 30 years as a CNA, and it is the heart of my Companionship & Social Support service in Hattiesburg. I do more than sit in the room. I pull up a chair, ask about old memories, read favorite books aloud, work puzzles, fold a bit of laundry together, or walk slowly down the hallway or front porch when it is safe to do so. For a former teacher, that might mean talking about past students; for a retired soldier, it may be listening to stories I have heard ten times and still honoring each one.

My goal is to ease loneliness, steady anxious moments, and bring a gentle rhythm back to the day, so your loved one feels seen, valued, and truly connected rather than simply "checked on."
